Several membership levels are available: $20 for those living in southeastern Wisconsin counties (Milwaukee, Racine, Waukesha, Ozaukee, Washington), $30 for families, or $10 for students and those living outside of the southeastern Wisconsin counties listed for regular membership. Membership dues and donations to this 501(c)(3) non-profit public charity are tax deductible to the extent allowed by law. The West Side Soldiers Aid Society, Inc., does not discriminate on the basis of sex, race, religion, age, national origin, ancestry, creed, marital or parental status, sexual orientation, or physical disability.
The following projects are funded by WSSAS memberships and fundraising: modern-day soldiers' relief projects, including outreach to troops deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan; veteran outreach and recognition, including the VA Women Veterans Program, Dryhootch, Stars and Stripes Honor Flights, Wreaths Across America; publication of lesson plans and educational guides; classroom presentations; photo and document reprint fees; purchase of artifacts and emphemera for the VA archives; research support, including equipment for collecting, storing, and preserving information on the Wisconsin Soldiers' Home and National Soldiers' Home; speaker fees and honoraria for programs offered to members and the general public; sponsorship of Civil War living history events; support for the living history dimension of the Society, including but not limited to durable goods and demonstration materials; support and maintenance of this website.
The Society sponsors and participates in the annual Reclaiming Our Heritage event at the Milwaukee VA Medical Center.
